I am a fan of Chilean artist Sebastian Errazuriz’s design pieces. I discovered his work through his wonderful gallery Cristina Grajales <\/a><\/strong><\/span>in New York and have always dreamt of owning a piece of his . It seems that now , like foodies<\/a><\/strong><\/span> are into eating and talking about food obsessively , a lot of people are very much into interior design and thus every big brand is investing in lifestyle too, so I am inspired to look at pieces that are truly unique, bold and treated as works of art for the home , pieces \u00a0that can be used everyday knowing that the giant luxury or design groups will never be able to copy them .<\/p>\n

There is also a frightening design overload and conformity \u00a0that you can see in people’s houses from the pages of the best magazines , as well as in the predictable, copy-cat \u00a0or over-designed public spaces of some restaurants and hotels that rely more on eye-candy than in providing their clients with real food or good bed linens and comfortable \u00a0beds.<\/p>\n

Like fashion and art , design is now becoming a statement \u00a0, which is why I admire the creative and individual spirit of Cristina Grajales’s gallery. And by the way , if you want to visit Cristina’s gallery she will have a stand in the upcoming FOG<\/a><\/span><\/strong> show in San Francisco , 15 to 18 january 2015 .<\/p>\n

This is Sebastian:<\/p>\n

Sebastian Errazuriz, born in Santiago, Chile in 1977, was raised in London. Errazuriz took art classes in Washington, film courses in Edinburgh, and design courses in Santiago. He later received his Master’s in Fine Arts from New York University. At age 28, Sebastian became the second living South American to have work auction at Sotheby’s Important Twentieth Century Design Auction.<\/em><\/p>\n

Errazuriz incorporates his obsession with the opposition between life and death into his artwork, creating work that reminds viewers of their mortality, invites them to look again at their lives, and to question their daily routines. Errazuriz carries this theme through the body of his work including his sculptures, public art works, consumer objects, furniture, and even fashion.<\/em><\/p>\n

Errazuriz was selected as one of the top emerging designers by\u00a0I.D.magazine,as well as receiving the title of Chilean Designer of the Year. His large-scale, avant-garde public artwork has received critical acclaim, and his unique pieces have been incorporated in over 40 international exhibitions in cities such as Tokyo, New York, Paris and Barcelona. His work is featured in several important private collections.<\/em><\/p>\n

Sebastian is currently preparing public urban art installations for New York, Madrid and Santiago, as well as designing products for clients ranging from the Design Shop of the Museum of Modern Art in New York to private commissions.<\/em><\/p>\n

Errazuriz lives and works in New York, with offices and workshops in Santiago.<\/em><\/p>\n
